La Quinta, CA—Over 150 of the world’s best golfers have converged on PGA West’s TPC Stadium and Nicklaus Tournament Course in the hopes of securing a spot on the PGA Tour. This six-round stroke play tournament will see the top 25 finishers and ties earning their coveted PGA Tour cards for the 2012 season.
PGA West was also the host site for the 2011 Golf Channel Amateur Tour National Championships, and qualifiers can view the coverage on Golf Channel and relive their title run with firsthand knowledge of what players like Rich Beem, David Duval, Lee Janzen, Sam Saunders, and Boo Weekley will experience down the stretch as they compete to get back to the PGA Tour. While the players at PGA West this week may be just a bit better they will still have to experience and conquer the tough closing holes and feel the same “heat” down the stretch as many of you did in your pursuit of a National Championship!
Just how good are the players at Q School this week? Consider that our 2011 National Champion, Paul Erdman (Championship Flight), finished with a total of 2-under par for 72-holes. The last time PGA Tour Q School Finals were held at PGA West, the winning score was 32-under par (including an amazing round of 59 in the fourth round by medalist Harrison Frazier). Erdman’s 2-under par total would have placed him in 137thplace (out of 163 players).
Amateur Tour Players can view the coverage on Golf Channel the following days and times:
- Saturday, December 3 from 3PM-6PM (EST)
- Sunday, December 4 from 3PM-6PM (EST)
- Monday, December 5 from 3PM-7PM (EST)
